EUR-EMSET is about:
- promoting excellence in mathematics and the natural sciences, environmental education and technology: a European approach to enquiry-based learning

What are we trying to achieve?:
Partner Local Authorities have identified a need to improve the quality of education in mathematics and the natural sciences – and to increase the take-up of these subjects in upper secondary and higher education. The project aims to achieve stimulating teaching and learning in science, maths and environmental education, through developing a joint framework for supporting, in particular student involvement in learning.

What's going on in EUR-EMSET just now?

A Comenius Bilateral Joint Curriculum Project in Environmental Science between Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre, Gloucestershire, UK and Rönnbyskolan, Västerås, Sweden - with the theme of 'Global Footsteps'

Preparation for a student learning activity to be led at Cirencester Deer Park School by colleagues from S:t Ilians skola, Västerås - on 'Chair building from cardboard'. Students and teachers are working interactively on this joint activity - planned to maximise learning in both science and maths through practical activity.

Preparation for a student learning activity to be led at the Wilderness Centre, Mitcheldean, by colleagues from Asköviken Nature Centre, working with students from Bussage Primary School.

Student Brief
(A negotiating exercise)
Scenario:

You are a member of a space crew originally scheduled to rendezvous with a mother ship on the lighted surface of the moon. However, due to mechanical difficulties, your ship was forced to land at a spot some 200 miles from the rendezvous point. During re-entry and landing, much of the equipment aboard was damaged and, since survival depends on reaching the mother ship, the most critical items available must be chosen for the 200 mile trip. Below are listed the 10 items left intact and undamaged after landing. Your task is to rank order them in terms of their importance for your crew in allowing them to reach the rendezvous point. Place the number 1 by the most important item, the number 2 by the second most important, and so on through number 10 for the least important.
